Upcoming Events

The ODU Philosophy Club is off to a great start! Our leadership team, the executive board, has accomplished much in the past month, and we have scheduled some interesting activities for you in the next month-- all just to build momentum. In the near future, we hope to work with members to determine topics for lectures and debates as well as learn from you about your interests, so please give us feedback at every opportunity. The ODU Philosophy Club is your club, but we need your involvement (mind and body) to turn your hopes for it into a reality.

Before I introduce upcoming events, I must thank the board for the time they have spent to ensure the successful launch of the club. Vice Presidents Cynthia Pereira and Maxwell Schrumpf have completed administrative tasks and attended meetings, Curtis Long has provided strong administrative support as our club scribe, Aly Croft has committed herself to mastering the techné of club finances as treasurer, Joshua Fitzwater has contributed his talents in photography and graphic design as Club Historian, Sean Whitty created, designed, and manages this blog, and Zach Breidenbach has committed himself to the rewarding task of community service. Each plays a crucial role towards the ultimate success of our club, and I am honored to work with them and so grateful for their contributions. Leaders are hard to come by. I know because I am still looking for more to get actively involved with club decisions and events. Am I looking for you? Please consider sharing your talents with the club (email me your ideas as to how you may contribute).

How can you get involved? Attend an upcoming meeting or activity. Within the next month, we have two opportunities that we hope you'll take advantage of, Open Mic! and Movie & Discussion. Our first general "meeting" and Open Mic! is scheduled for next Tuesday evening (January 25th) at 7:30 p.m. at Borjo Coffeehouse, just across from the campus bookstore. Open Mic! will be held the 4th Tuesday monthly. If you're unable to make it in the evenings, come to Movie & Discussion, the first of which will be February 11th, in the Burgess Room (9024) in BAL. Movie & Discussion will be held at 12:00 p.m. on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. We hope you'll attend these preliminary events, so that we may hear more from you about your ideas for the club.

As Dr. Loomis likes to say, "the unexamined life is not worth living." Come on out, and help me figure out what on Earth he is talking about!

Halie Hovenga, president
ODU Philosophy Club
